(A) is a percussion single shot by Allen & Wheelock and so marked on the top of the 4" part round, part octagon barrel. Several thousand of these guns were made in the 1840's to Civil War period. One of the more common percussion pistols encountered. (B) is a rare Marston breechloading percussion pistol. This is the brass frame model with silver plated finish. Total production estimated at 1,000. .36 caliber. Single shot. The mechanism is operated by lowering the lever at the front of the grip to allow the loading of a Marston's patent leather base paperboard bodied cartridge into the rear of the barrel. Made in the early to mid-1850's. 4-3/4" part round/part octagon barrel. Standard markings on barrel. CONDITION: (A) Retains a pleasing even age patina overall with light surface rust and most likely some minor pitting. Markings on top of barrel are legible but dirty. Missing the trigger guard. Wood grips are good with light scratches. Good mechanical function. Bore is rusty. (B) Retains a pleasing patina overall. Great untouched look to it. Some surface rust on the barrel with probable pitting underneath. Markings are clear. The action is frozen closed, although the lever does move a bit. The mainspring is either missing or broken as there is no spring tension on the hammer. Grips have a chip out of the back on either side. Bore is rusty.
