Standard markings. 1863 dated on the lock and barrel. A total of 12,500 of these were produced between 1862 and 1865, and is considered one of the best designed military arms of the Civil War era although unfortunately many of these were never issued to the troops. CONDITION: The barrel has been painted black. Lock retains a pleasing patina with clear markings and some minor pitting. Stock has been refinished, cartouches are still visible. Brass has been polished bright. Several screws, including the lock screws, appear to be more modern replacements that have been touched up. Original ramrod has been blued. The hammer does not cock, although there is strong spring tension. Bore has strong rifling with pitting.
