This fine rifle features 17 engraved silver inlays. The octagonal rifled steel barrel is stamped "J. DOUGLASS" on the top flat nad features a nicely scalloped rear sight. No markings are visible on the Percussion lock plate. Brass furniture including a four piece pierced patch box engraved with floral scrolls and a profusely decorated foliate engraved sideplate. The rifle has double set triggers. There is a period repair using a strip of inaid brass just forward the lock, on the forend. There are 17 engraved silver inlays, including whale's tail shape, hearts, a comet, and a four petaled flower in front of the finial. Highly figured maple buttstock of familiar Huntingdon County Pennsylvania form, complete with original hickory ramrod. CONDITION: Good to Very Good. Barrel and lock retains a dark brown patina. Lock plate, bulster and breech show heavy corrosion, and hammer does not remain in cocked position. Furniture retains an unpolished patina, and inlays also show some patina. Stock is very good, with some minor losses and cracks around lock plate, and shoeing generous amounts of original finish.
