Blue finish with case colored hammer, lever, trigger, and buttplate. Straight grained American walnut stocks with carbine butt plate and full length forend. Barrel has standard markings for this model and ladder carbine sights. Rear sight is mounted in reverse and is original. Receiver is of 2nd Model type with a screwed on guide for dust cover. Dust cover has no thumbprint. Saddle ring is mounted on left side. Brass elevator is marked “45-60”. Upper tang is marked “MODEL 1876”. Lower tang has full serial number 23762 behind lever. Forearm is full length with single barrel band and forend cap with 1-1/2" of muzzle exposed. CONDITION: Excellent. Carbine retains over 95% original factory applied blue finish. A small amount of surface corrosion is present with no evidence of having been cleaned. Dried oil and grease from the period is evident in corners and protected areas. Bore is bright with sharp rifling. Receiver is excellent as well with a trace of finish loss at balance point of bottom of receiver. Hammer and lever retain most all of the vivid case colors with a small amount of factory applied lacquer finish remaining in the protected areas of the lever. Wood stocks are very fine with several very minor impressions and bruises. The original varnish finish is excellent with no evidence of restoration or cleaning. This is an exceptional 1876 Carbine and these are typically found in fair to poor condition. They were heavily used by police and militias in the Northwest as well as State provincial police forces. This is the finest and most honest standard Model 1876 Saddle Ring Carbine we have had the honor of offering. From the Jim Linton Collection.
