Introduced in 1956, few of these magnum action guns were sold. Those in .338 Winchester Magnum are quite rare and these rifles are quite desirable because they hardly ever fail to feed correctly. This rifle was made in 1965 and has 25-1/2" heavy tapered round barrel fitted with two leaf rear sight and silver bead in sleeved on front ramp. Special long rotary feed action has all correct factory marks including caliber on receiver ring. Steyr markings are on left side of action. Bright polished bolt with straight handle is specially designed with rear portion of bolt handle root engaging front of right bridge as third locking lug. Single stage trigger and tang safety are installed. Relatively plain European walnut pistol grip stock measures 14-3/8" over ribbed composition buttplate and features Monte Carlo comb with large shadow line right hand cheekpiece. Point pattern checkering is at grip and forend and stock also features white line spacers for buttplate, grip cap, and forend tip, as well as sling loops. Weight: 8 lbs 15 oz. CONDITION: Good, as partially refinished. All metal parts except bolt retain nearly all of a restored blue over some scattered pitting. Bolt is polished bright over considerable pitting. Stock retains nearly all of its original finish, age checked, and with some light marks. Bore is excellent. Rifle comes with its original wooden shipping crate with mailing and customs labels. Box is in overall good condition, labels are foxed. MGM202.
