Rare Paterson with 3" octagon barrel, German silver front sight, and one line “Patent Arms M’g Co Paterson N-J Colt’s Pt” address with small bow ties at each end. Cylinder has five chambers with the centaur scene roll marking. Grip frame is straight style with one piece nicely figured walnut grip. Serial number 486 was observed on rear face of barrel lug, rear face of cylinder, rotating ring, trigger, bottom of grip. According to various publications there were about 850 Belt Model Paterson revolvers produced 1837-1840 with those serial numbers shared by both the No. 2 and No. 3 revolvers. Any Paterson is a collector’s prize. They have been valuable since before, during, and after the Great Depression, even in the 1950s they sold for hundreds of dollars. The short barrel #2 Belt apart from its rarity is a more than acceptable specimen. CONDITION: Gun retains much of what appears to be much of an old refinish, possibly factory. Barrel markings are still clear and cylinder scene is fully visible and excellent for a Paterson. Figured walnut grips retain considerable traces of factory varnish. Wedge is numbered 94 although is an original Paterson part. Bore is very good and will clean better. Serial number is 486. Mechanics are excellent.
