Starting in the 1960's, Israel acquired many US manufactured 1919A4 machine guns that were leftover from WWII which they modified and converted for use for the next three decades. In the 1990's many were brought back to the United States and sold as parts kits, this being a key example. This semi-automatic sideplate was manufactured by Allied Armament and reads " NO. 849 U.S. INSP. AS/ BROWNING MACHINE GUN/ U.S. CAL. 30 M1919A4/ MAN'FD BY SAGINAW STEERING GEAR DIV./ GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION". Many components including the top cover, booster, receiver, etc. retain their Israeli markings, including serial numbers, "7.62" conversion marking, and the Hebrew letter "H". The receiver and bolt are stamped "7.62" signifying that this 1919A4 was converted to 7.62x51mm NATO while under Israeli ownership. Modified components include the booster, rear sight, belt holding pawl and bracket, top cover, bolt, and barrel. Complete with a 1919A4 M2 tripod and traverse and elevation mechanism. CONDITION: Metal components retain bountiful amounts of applied green parkerized finish, showing minimal wear. Bore is bright and retains strong rifling throughout. Action is smooth and lock up tightly. Tripod retains most of its applied brown paint, showing scattered areas of wear and loss. Elevation and traverse mechanism retains the majority of its applied finish, showing minor wear. Overall, this makes for a fine example of an Israeli converted semi-automatic 1919A4 that one could have much fun with at the range! MW
