Rare First Model pocket revolver. Manufactured between 1857-1858 with a total production estimated between 4,500 - 5,000. Serial number 983. Percussion .31 caliber, five shot cylinder, with 3" octagon barrel. Smooth finish one piece gutta percha grips with butt cap. Blue overall with case hardened hammer and early production silver plated brass trigger guard. Barrel marked in two lines: "F. BEALS PATENT / JUNE 24 '56 & MAY 26, '57" frame top strap is marked in two lines: "REMINGTON'S / ILION N.Y." Distinguishing outside; left side, frame mounted pawl that rotates cylinder when cocked. Complete with a walnut partition fitted case with red interior. Includes a two piece brass & steel cleaning rod. Brass two cavity bullet mold, and correct powder flask marked: "E PLURIBUS UNUM". CONDITION: Revolver shows traces of original blue with overall balance a pleasing brown patina. Action operates appropriately. Grips show modest wear. Case is excellent with clean interior showing modest wear. Accessories are excellent. Flask has a couple small dents. Overall a very nice cased set of a scarce and desirable model Remington Pocket Revolver. -MKS-
