Kentucky style rifle stamped "A. McGilvray" for Alexander McGilvray of Harrisonburg, Virginia made circa 1820 -1825. Rifled octagon barrel measuring 1" across muzzle making gun most likely an "Over the Log" target type rifle with blade front sight and 2 notched rear sights. Barrel stamped "A. McGilvray". Percussion lock marked "London Warranted" controlled by double set triggers. Full curly maple fancy grained stock with brass furniture including a 4 piece engraved "4 petal daisy" finial commonly used by Virginia makers. Push button release for lid in toe plate. Flat steel barrel keys. Comes with hardwood ramrod. CONDITION: Gun has been cleaned long ago with patchbox and brass parts showing an old polish. 2 of the barrel keys are replacements with small stress crack near second from muzzle. Good shootable bore with good mechanics. A nice looking Virginia rifle. DLM
