Lot consist of: (A) Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor single shot rifle. Made 1883. Barrel marked " V P (eagles head) P" on the left side of the chamber. Breech block marked "U.S/MODEL/1878(3)". Frame retains its Federal Eagle and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD". Stock has a crisp boxed "SWP/1883" on the left side of the tang. Circle "P" firing proof present behind the trigger guard. An interesting "WH" is marked on top of comb. Blade front sight with M79 pattern rear sight adjustable to 1200 yards. Metal retains its original blued finish, forming a nice patina in most areas. Stock has a light oil finish. No cleaning rod. CONDITION: Metal retains 70% of its original finish with light wear and patina. Wood has minor handling marks and scratches. Bore is clean overall with some light pitting near the muzzle. Rifling is very good overall. Mechanically fine. (B) Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor single shot rifle. Made 1892. Barrel marked " V P (eagles head) P" on the left side of the chamber. Breech block marked "U.S/MODEL/1884". Frame retains its Federal Eagle and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD". Stock has a crisp boxed "SWP/1892" on the left side of the tang. Circle "P" firing proof present behind the trigger guard. Top of the buttplate is marked "A/10/41" under the typical "U.S". This is a possible unit marking from the Spanish American War. Blade front sight with infamous Buffington rear sight. Metal has formed a heavy patina in most areas. Light oil finish on the wood. Includes attached bayonet/ramrod. CONDITION: Metal retains little of its original finish with heavy patina and wear. Wood has some minor handling marks and scratches. Bore is clean overall, retaining good overall rifling. Mechanically fine. JWA
