Heavy percussion target rifle made by George Schalk of Pottsville, Pennsylvania circa 1821 to 1893. George Schalk was an early master target rifle maker who influenced famous barrel maker's such as Harry M. Pope. Gun features a full octagon rifled barrel with gain twist, fitted with a brass sighting tube with sight blade in end of tube mounting in front sight dovetail and mounting at rear in base at tang and having a brass adjustable eyepiece. Barrel comes with false muzzle and brass bullet starter. Barrel has rear sight dovetail plugged and barrel is stamped "G. Schalk Pottsville". Patent breech percussion ignition system with case hardened percussion lock controlled by double set triggers. Walnut full perch belly stock with German silver furniture and stock is formed at muzzle to have a rest installed. Comes with styled hardwood ramrod, bullet swaging tool marked "G. Schalk Pottsville", and various goodies associated with shooting this rifle. CONDITION: Overall good with metal having an aged patina with some surface corrosion. Wood has usage marks and dings with some chips around lock with no visible repairs or restoration. Finish has some crazing. Sight tube is slightly bent at muzzle end. Excellent bore and mechanics.
