Circa late 1920s Hartzell Design 316 airplane propeller. Hartzell Propeller Company was established in 1917 and manufactured propellers during the golden age of aviation. This propeller is crafted from wood featuring a clear lacquer finish with gold painted ends and brass edging. The right side of the center hub is marked "HARTZELL / PIQUA OHIO" and the left side is marked "DESIGN 316 / SR. NO. 14715". Design 316 propellers were manufactured to fit the St. Louis C2 Cardinal aircraft. One side of the center hub is also marked with the serial number "14715". The metal edges are marked "HARTZELL" There are 2 Hartzell decals on each end of the wood blades that read "Built on Honor / HARTZELL / Hartzell Propeller Co. / Division of / Hartzell Industries, Inc. / Piqua-Ohio-U.S.A.". The propeller comes with a hand made mount from the previous consigner. CONDITION: The propeller exhibits various scratches but is in overall good condition and would be a wonderful decoration. This propeller would not be recommended for use at altitude unless it is hanging high on a wall. JLD
