(1890) Dramatically patterned 30" barrels are marked with "Parker Bros Makers Meriden Conn Bernard Steel" on concave matted rib. The right barrel has a removable rifle insert, likely added in period and caliber is unknown. Period sights have been added to the rib. Matches serial number specifications in ledger. Case hardened 2 sized frame features automatic safety and nickel-plated double triggers. Action is engraved in early "C" style with nicely rendered dogs; pointer on left and setter on right surrounded by lightly cut scroll within geometric borders. "Parker Bros" is on riband behind each dog scene. Trigger plate is engraved with scene of running stag in mountainous background. Scroll engraved trigger guard has serial number on tang. The buttstock, a possible period replacement, is nicely figured and marbled European walnut capped pistol grip buttstock, measures 14 3/8" over skeleton steel buttplate. Checkering is of usual "C" type with wavy borders and wraps over top of grip. Side panels are checkered in unusual style, with very closely spaced square checkering with line extensions toward drop points. A vacant silver oval is on toe line. Matching splinter forend with shaped steel tip has patent date engraved on typical Parker release. CONDITION: Barrels retain approximately 60% dramatic original Bernard pattern with area cleaned under forend. Action has faded to a gray patina with only trace colors in protected areas. Screws show evidence of use. Stocks retain nearly all of a glossy period refinish over some marks and stains, with some subsequent marks. Bottom right barrel is lightly dented 7-8" from the muzzle. Bores are very fine, mostly shiny, lightly frosted, with some striations. Action is tight. Approximately 335 "CH" Parkers were made with Bernard barrels. JTH
