Lot consists of (A) Standard configuration regulation US Model 1850 sword for field-grade officers and officers serving staff positions. Brass hilt with open work floral decorated guard with floating U.S. leather grip wrap. Triple wire binding. Regulation metal scabbard with brass mounts. Horstmann firm scroll applied on reverse upper throat and Horstmann stamp at obverse ricasso. CONDITION: Good. Wear to leather grip. Wire in place. Cracks to reverse counterguard edge. Pad in place under guard. Scabbard complete, but shows crustiness to body and mottling to brass mounts. Blade dark gray with thin brown to upper and lower edges. Various dings throughout the length of the blade. (B) Regulation US Model 1850 sword for infantry lieutenants, captains, and other line officers serving on foot. Standard configuration with Horstmann etched firm name at obverse ricasso, gebruder Weyersberg king’s head blade stamp reverse ricasso; “iron proof” etched spine, all correct for German swords and blades imported by Horstmann for sale to U.S. officers. Sharkskin wrap complete but showing wear. Partial wire present and loose. Standard cast and chased floral motifs on pommel and openwork guard. Blade pad under guard missing. Blade with good edge and point. Cleaned at some point rendering geometric, floral and military etched panels visible but light. Regulation brass mounted leather scabbard, with brass matching hilt and no breaks. Snap hooks and partial sword sling still attached to carrying rings. CONDITION: Very good. A nice example by the well-known Philadelphia military goods dealer. SR
