1897 vintage Winchester "Double W" Cartridge Board, No. 635. Overall outside dimensions are 57 - 1/4" x 40". The lithograph image measures 32" x 49". Framed with quarter-sawn oak with 3" wide molding. Lined with an inner frame using 1 - 1/2" wide gold color molding. Lithograph board has 182 cartridges, shotshells, and bullets with 10 special primer and cap tins having glass lids for viewing inner contents. Center image is by famous artist A.B. Frost depicting 2 North Woods hunters and their dead bear with 1 hunter standing and the other sitting on a log with both their rifles leaning on the log. Left center of the board has the image of a flying Mallard Drake and right-center a Bull Moose head. On reverse side is a Winchester label asking owner to display it in a prominent spot. Paper backing is marked with serial number 635. CONDITION: Very good overall. Board is completely intact with all the original cartridges in place. All brass cartridge cases have turned a dark brown patina. Images are complete and clearly visible. Original oak outer frame has a coat of varnish added. Gold liner frame shows areas of touch-up and minor damage. Loose areas found on frames. The perimeter edges of the litograph have areas of lifting. The overall image has black soiling that needs cleaning. Image has scattered spots of color loss. Original paper backing is dark brown but completely intact as is the label. Overall a good presentable example that could be greatly improved upon with professional cleaning. -MKS-
