Manufactured at the Izhevsk arsenal in 1901, this M91 was later captured and utilized by the Germans during World War I, afterwards being sold to Finland in the 1920s, and was subsequently converted by Tikka into an M27 rifle. Interior of barrel tang bears the Izhevsk arsenal bow and arrow over "1901". The hex receiver bears a German "VII.58." marking on the right flat, with a Russian Imperial Eagle proof over the chamber followed by additional German markings "1.K.173." and "CTN DEUTSCH" on the left side, with German stampings likely indicating either the depot or Fremgerat (foreign equipment) code numbers. Barrel shank is stamped "D" (indicating conversion for the Finnish D166 cartridge) over the Tikka "T" within a triangle logo, above the serial number and "F/1928". Finnish "SA" stamps are also present on the barrel shank. Right side of barrel bears a Century Arms International import mark. Features include a Konovalov rear sight, protected "eared" front sight, late M27 pattern 1-piece nose cap, as well as a spliced M91 pattern stock. CONDITION: Metal components retain bountiful amounts of their Finnish arsenal applied blue finish, exhibiting some wear overall, with some spots of pitting present beneath the finish, as well as some areas of light surface oxidation. Buttplate and rear barrel band exhibit a gray patina. Bore is bright, exhibiting moderate amounts of oxidation in the lands and retaining fair rifling throughout. Stock shows scattered handling marks overall, but is otherwise sturdy and serviceable. A very interesting and well traveled M27 rifle that was utilized by 3 different armies during the 20th century.
