Introduced in 1938, Beretta's Model 38A saw widespread usage among different nations in World War II, proving popular among both Allied and Axis troops. This example is stamped with the serial number "H/ 9142" on the top of the receiver, with "F" and "S" on the left at the selector switch. Barrel shroud is stamped with a crown over "RE" proof on the left side, indicating Italian army acceptance. Clear inspection office cartouche on buttstock, forward of sling bar. No manufacturer markings were ever applied to this receiver. Features include a blue finish, 12 - 1/2" barrel, compensator, perforated barrel shroud, post front sight, adjustable rear sight with graduations from 100-500 meters, as well as a 1-piece solid wood buttstock. Matching numbers are present on the receiver, barrel shroud, as well as the buttstock. No magazine present. Electronic NFA registry indicates “Beretta” as the manufacturer. PROVENANCE: From the collection of esteemed NFA firearms enthusiast and collector J. R. Moody. One original leather sling is included. CONDITION: Metal components retain good amounts of their original arsenal blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning overall that show through to gray and brown patinas. Stock shows some scattered handling marks and minor repairs overall, with a couple small cracks present at the buttplate on the left side. Bore is bright, exhibiting some firing residue and well-defined lands and grooves throughout. Bolt face is extremely fine. Mechanics are crisp. This is a select fire machine gun.
