United States 45 star flag with an interesting connection to an American President. The 45 star flag became the official United States flag on July 4, 1896 and was in use for 12 years until July 4, 1908. An ink inscription on the hoist indicates that this flag was first flown in honor of President William McKinley the day he passed away. The inscription reads "First Used Sept 14th 1901 / Death of Pres Wm McKinley / Louis W Taylor". The flag is constructed of wool bunting and measures approximately 70" x 46". The hoist is faintly stamped "STANDARD 4x6". There are 2 metal grommets on each end of the hoist. The canton rests on the seventh, red stripe, measures 29" x 25", and is constructed of 2 horizontal panels of wool bunting. The upper panel measures 29" x 19" and the lower panel measures 29" x 6". The upper panel contains 38 stars, arranged 8, 7, 8, 7, 8 and the lower panel contains a row of 7 stars. CONDITION: The flag exhibits various small holes and small areas of separation, which are especially evident on the upper and lower left corners. The colors have faded slightly, and the ink inscription has browned with age. Overall good. This is a very nice 45 star flag with a connection to America's 25th President. JLD
