Standard configuration P.38 assembled from left over and reworked components after the conclusion of World War II. The left side of the slide is stamped "P.38" followed by "byf/44" and the serial number, with the right side bear 2 Mauser "(Eagle) / 135" waffenamts on either side of an eagle firing proof. Left side of frame bears the serial number followed by a Mauser "(Eagle) / 135" waffenamt as well as a East German Volkspolizei (People's Police) shield within a sunburst property stamp. Barrel is marked "cyq" on the left hand side, indicating manufacture by Spreewerke. Metal components are blued and frame is mounted with 2-piece pressed resin grips. Matching numbers are present on the frame, slide, and barrel. Bottom of magazine is matching via an electro-penciled inscription. Locking block is unnumbered. Pistol is accompanied by a "jln/1944" marked softshell leather holster. CONDITION: Metal components retain good amounts of their arsenal reapplied blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear showing through to gray patina as well as spots of inactive oxidation overall. Mirror bore, exhibiting well defined rifling throughout. Grips show some superficial marks from handling and storage, but are otherwise fine. Holster is malleable, exhibiting exterior wear, age related cracking, and crazing overall, with the rear exhibiting a period field repair and modified area consisting of a cutout, likely for a belt look attachment.
