Model 1877 Lightning manufactured by Colt in 1891. The left side of the barrel is stamped "COLT. D.A. 38", with Colt's 2-line address across the top. Left side of frame bears patent information followed by the encircled Rampant Colt logo. Rear grip strap is engraved "B.P.D. 22." indicating issue to the Boston Police Department. Major metal components are nickel plated, with some smaller components being nitre blued. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered hard rubber grips. Matching numbers are present on the frame, trigger guard, butt, as well as on the rear face of the cylinder. Revolver is accompanied by a factory letter indicating that this revolver was sent in a shipment of 6 guns to William Read & Sons in Boston, Massachusetts on February 5th, 1891. CONDITION: Metal components retain large amounts of their original factory applied nickel finish, exhibiting some areas of flaking and bubbling, as well as some scattered nicks and marks from handling and storage overall. Nitre blued components show some light wear and some thinning, but are otherwise very good. Bore is bright, exhibiting mild inactive oxidation and retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grips show areas of smoothing and some nicks to the diamonds, with the bottom of the left panel bearing a crack. A very attractive Boston Police Department issued Colt 1877 Lightning revolver. MLW
