Designed by August Schuler and manufactured at his factory as well as licensed at and produced at other factories, the Schuler Reform pistol is unique and innovative in design. The barrel also doubles as a magazine, featuring notches on the rear that which, when engaged by the hammer, lifts the barrel/magazine block up. When the subsequent round in fired, the gas is ported in the above barrel, ejecting the empty case, which is deflected off the hammer. The left side of the barrel block is stamped "BREVETE / D.R.P. / 177023" above an Imperial German eagle. Horizontal "(Crown) / N" commercial nitro proof is present on the left side of the frame and barrel block. Bottom of butt is stamped "GERMANY". Major metal components are rust blued, with the safety lever being nitre blued. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered black plastic grips. Matching numbers are present on the frame, barrel block, and trigger. CONDITION: Metal components retain large amounts of their original factory applied blue finish, exhibiting some areas of wear showing through to gray patina, areas of cleaned oxidation, as well as a few spots of light surface oxidation overall. Bores are all bright, exhibiting some mild pitting and retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grips are very good, showing a few nicks and marks from storage and handling. A unique and very intriguing Pre-World War I pistol design. MLW
