Circa 1845-early 1850s. 6 - 1/4" clip point blade deeply stamped on its ricasso "S.C. WRAGG, NO. 25 FURNACE HILL SHEFFIELD", and on its face with a variety of figures and slogans, including a bare-breasted mermaid with the words "TRY ME", a merman with trident and crown with the words "I SURPASS ALL", a military officer, a stereotypical Chinese man, an incomplete riband that should read "AMERICAN HUNTING KNIFE" and a very early steam train, the last of which we have not previously encountered. 10 - 1/2" overall length. A first series British registry mark for January 25, 1845 is also present (registration for legal protection of the blade's stamped designs.) 1-piece stag handle with oval nickel silver guard and pommel plate. Morocco leather sheath with nickel silver throat scratched "CLS". CONDITION: Blade with light sharpening and an attractive patina with scattered spotting, the markings are generally deep and clear. The sheath with tip missing, scuffing and water damage to the body. Formerly part of the Tommie Jones collection.
