Lot consists of: (A) US Model 1836 martial pistol manufactured by Johnson and dated 1837 on lock. Converted to percussion during the pre-Civil War era with installation of bolster. Captured swivel ramrod and 1 piece walnut stocks with iron mountings. New Jersey ownership marked on left barrel flat and left stock flat opposite lock. Stock also bears JH and HKC cartouches. CONDITION: Very good, with iron components retaining a pleasant brown patina with evidence of cleaning. Stock is in matching condition with cartouches sharp, evidence of cleaning, and handling marks throughout. Mechanically fine. Bore is frosted with scattered areas of abrasion. (B) US Model 1842 martial pistol manufactured by Aston and dated 1847 on lock. Barrel is dated 1848 near breech. Captured swivel ramrod and 1 piece walnut stocks with brass mountings. Left flat of stock opposite lock bears faint WAT and JM cartouches. CONDITION: Good as cleaned bright with areas of freckling, especially near muzzle and bolster. Brass is beginning to form a mellow patina with areas of light oxidation. Stock has evidence of cleaning and handling marks with cartouches faint. Mechanically fine. Bore is dark.
