Standard configuration P.08 manufactured by DWM under contract for the Imperial German military. The receiver is stamped "1911" over the chamber, with 2 DWM arsenal proofs followed by an Imperial German reichsadler present on the right side. Toggle bears the intertwined "DWM" monogram logo. Front grip strap is unit marked "19.T.S.1.144." indicating issue to the 19th Train Battalion, 1st Medical Company, Weapon Number 144. Frame has been altered at the Erfurt arsenal to accept a hold-open device, exhibiting a small circular incision and a small arsenal proof on the right hand side, with an additional small Erfurt arsenal proof present on the hold-open device. Major metal components are rust blued, with some smaller components strawed. Blued components have been arsenal refinished, likely at the time of alteration. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered walnut grips. All numbers are matching (with the exception of the magazine) and are serialized in the commercial (hidden) fashion. CONDITION: Metal components retain the vast majority of their arsenal applied blue finish, exhibiting some minor areas of wear, as well as spots of mild surface oxidation overall. Strawed components exhibit varying degrees of wear and thinning, with worn areas exhibiting spots of age-related discoloration. Bright bore, exhibiting mild pitting and retaining well defined lands and grooves throughout. Grips exhibit some light smoothing, with some scattered marks from handling and storage. Right grip panel bears a sizeable impression but is otherwise fine. A very nice condition example of an early production and unit marked P.08 Luger. MLW
