Dauphine is recorded in Stockel, with working dates for this maker between 1760-1780. The 3-stage blued barrel is decorated with gilded and engraved designs. Motifs include a large sun-in-splendor and florals, all accented with gilt. Convex banana lock with small teat at rear tang, inscribed "Dauphine a tulle" under pan. Swan neck cock with replaced screw and hairline crack at curve. Convex classic French s-shaped sideplate with an original browned iron belt hook. The walnut stock shows crisp and well executed carving throughout, including extensive foliate and floral scrolls around barrel tang, cameo carving around the trigger guard finial and at ramrod channel. Ivory tipped ramrod, probably the original, feeds directly into a reinforced iron entry ferrule. Trigger guard is plain with an urn finial. Pommel with typical French flaring and an iron pommel cap with stirrups. CONDITON: Overall good. Barrel has some brown coming up through flashes of the high polish blued finish, gilt slightly lifting in a few areas. Lock is essentially a smooth brown patina with dove grey metal visible in protected areas, such as under frizzen spring and under cock. Original flintlock configuration and functions properly with a strong mechanism. Trigger guard and buttcap essentially brown patina en suite with lock. Stock is very good with crisp carving and some minor handling marks, and a few scattered marks from use. Bore is very good. A very well presenting pistol with nice carving and belt hook.
