An extremely unusual kard with a wootz damascus blade with good figure, flattened back, and remnants of koftgari work in recesses along back. Hilt is an extremely clever hollow piece of sheet metal, braized close at front, with a screw fixed compartment that is cutout for numerous medical tools including a threaded handle with female head for attaching the various tips, including a serrated blade, a curved tool, 2 blades, an unsharpened chisel tip, a pair of scissors, a straight razor, and an L shaped tool. Scabbard with a wood body, wrapped in velvet, with throat and drag decorated with pierced sheet silver, decorated with florals and geometrics, throat with a hanging chain. CONDITION: Overall very good. Metal is essentially dove grey throughout, with some visible spots of cleaning and polishing to dagger, including a small repair along braise line. Blade shows wootz pattern well, but is also dove grey and koftgari is all but gone. Velvet is good with some balding spots. Silver is tarnished throughout and will easily clean. Tools are commensurate, with some some spots are age related patina and delamination. Handle is wrapped in sheet metal. These compartment items are very scarce, and this cataloguer is aware of only one other example in the Walter's Museum; a gun made for Sultan Mahmud with accessories, accession number 51.84.
