G. Banchi is recorded in Stockel as active in Brescia circa 1790. Barrel in 2 stages with octagonal section about the breech with numerous proofs, including 14 fleur-de-lis, and 2 poincons, one that appears to be a sea creature while the other is a head. Edges of octagonal section are dressed with floral decoration and light motifs at the wedding ring. Second stage of barrel is rounded, with duckbill muzzle (measures approximately 1 - 3/4" across muzzle, 1 - 1/4" top-down). Plain slightly convex banana lock with waterproof pan, bridled pan cover, gooseneck cock, and light line decoration; signed "GIUSEPPI BANCHI" in center. Iron trumpet head ramrod retained by a single brass ferrule and feeding into a reinforced mouth with floral finial. Wood with relief carving throughout. Decorative sideplate en suite with reinforced mouth and trigger guard in a rococo style. Tang with raised shell apron, brass shield, and button which actuates folding mechanism, folding the butt forward. Buttstock with brass buttplate decorated en suite with balance of mounts, carving of wood en suite. CONDITION: Metal essentially a smooth gunmetal grey with minor flashes of staining and areas of light chocolate patina. Some minor delamination visible in metal. Brass a rich gold. Sideplate with a crack at rear. Stock is good with normal handling and pressure marks throughout, with a tight crack at reinforced mouth and under lock; approximately 1 - 1/2" x 5/8" have been replaced on right side of folding mechanism. Mechanically fine, including folding function, bore is good.
