Note that with the addition of an intact upper assembly this would be a fully functional machine gun ! This is an original Colt factory manufactured M16 cut-away display gun. Because it was built originally as a machine gun, and then subsequently cut away at the factory, it is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives as a fully transferable machine gun. This near mint specimen, when displayed showing the left side, exhibits minimal cut-outs showing the interior of the action, magazine latch, and a portion of the bolt. The Colt logo model “M16”, selector markings, and serial number are intact. When viewed from the right side the cut-outs from the composite materials of the stock, handguard, and handgrip are more extensive, as well as cut-outs from the barrel, bolt, receiver, and magazine well. Factory cut-away specimens such as this were prepared to be able to illustrate to visitors and executives the various parts and how they came together to function in the firearm. This is an impressive display piece. One 30-round magazine with cut-outs is included as well as an oak and glass display case. Electronic registry indicates “COLT” as the manufacturer. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is near excellent original finish with only some of the slightest of handling marks. Bore near excellent shiny and bright. Bolt face extremely fine. This is a select-fire machine gun. Mechanics are crisp when operated by hand but this piece, although technically capable of firing a round of ammunition, would yield catastrophic results due to the cut-outs in the barrel, chamber, and upper assembly.
