A very solid example of a regulation and wartime Civil War officer's grade forage cap. This example is a a high quality private purchase or commercial cap that features a fine polished cotton quilted lining to the interior crown and a fine pebbled leather sweatband. Cap is constructed of a fine wool with the added feature of a double stitched seam from crown to edge down the back. Retains fine black leather chinstrap with finely detailed gold gilt Union staff buttons to both sides. CONDITION: Overall very good with very light age commensurate wear overall. Black silk inner side lining is present but starting to shatter. Quilted top lining is solid. Thin Moroccan leather sweat band is sound and attached by the original stitching. Tarred brim is good and attached solidly.
