P.08 manufactured by DWM during World War I under contract for the Imperial German military. The receiver is stamped "1916" over the chamber, with DWM arsenal proofs followed by an Imperial German reichsadler on the right. Toggle bears the intertwined "DWM" monogram. Major metal components are blued, while some smaller components are strawed or nitre blued. Barrel has been swapped for a 1920 Commercial 7.65x21mm Parabellum barrel, with the front sight replaced. Grip screws are replaced and exhibit what appear to be leather washers to fit the frame. All numbers match except the barrel, firing pin, hold-open latch, grips, and magazine. The pistol is accompanied by a brown leather holster marked "PASIGN/ 1916" on the rear. CONDITION: Metal components retain large amounts of their original arsenal blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning that show through to gray and brown patina, a couple of areas of heavy cleaning that show silvering, and some spots of mild pitting. Strawed components appear to have been cleaned once, and are mainly in-the-white. The rear toggle pin rim is broken on one side. Bore is bright, exhibiting consistent mild pitting and good rifling throughout. Grips exhibit smoothing and some handling marks, with the left panel exhibiting a loss to the rear of the safety lever. Holster leather is malleable, exhibiting scattered marks from handling and storage and mild age-related cracking.
