56" overall circa 1700s New England style fowler built by an unknown gunsmith. Octagon to faceted 39 -1/2" smoothbore .52 caliber barrel with rifle sights. Round plate flint lock with single trigger control, no markings, and light floral engraving. Full-length curly maple stock with brass hardware and a nice chip-carved pattern around the tang while brass is engraved with a zig-zag pattern. CONDITION: Overall good, with metal turning a brown patina. Brass is a nice, even golden color. Wood has old finish with a possible coating of wax. A large piece of wood is missing under the right side of the lock due to an old mainspring break. The lock appears to be a possible replacement, with the gun possibly converted back to flint with an area of burnout around the top of the lock. Dark pitted bore with soft mechanics.
