A true pair of small-sized pocket pistols manufactured by Henry Deringer of Philadelphia circa 1850, bearing his standard "DERINGER / PHILADELA" markings on breeches and locks. Pistols are fit with sunburst "P" proofed 3" twist patterned browned barrels with small brass front sights and v-notch rear sights. Standard foliate engraved case hardened back action percussion locks. Stocked in checkered American walnut with engraved German silver mounts. A true pair numbered "I" and "II" on the front grip straps. Housed in a period partitioned hardwood case with flask, single cavity brass bullet mold, ramrod, ebony-handled turnscrew, and ebony-handled nipple wrench. CONDITION: Very fine. Barrels retain nearly all of their original browning with significant traces of patterning visible. Locks have largely faded to gray patina, pistol "II" retains a few flashes of case color. Fine stocks with minor impressions and some light wear. Mounts have not been polished in some time and are starting to mellow. Fine, lightly frosted bores. Crisp mechanics. Case is very fine, showing expected surface marks. A rare and lovely true pair of cased Henry Deringer pocket pistols.
