Manufactured 1938 per serial number. Classic 5 - 1/2" .45 Colt configuration with black front sight, a wide notch in strap as rear sight, "COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .45" on left side of barrel, Colt's information in one line across top of barrel, 2-line 3-date patent information on left side of frame, kidney shaped ejector rod head. The gun has approximate A class coverage of modern pneumatic cut engraving of acanthus scroll. Grips are checkered with spearhead intrusions and flush medallions. Reapplied nickel plating through, with Colt's ampersand mark on left side of trigger guard. Housed in a Colt maroon box with no markings on underside. PROVENANCE: Richard "Dick" Burdick collection. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining virtually all of the reapplied nickel finish with some superficial scratches throughout. Engraving is sharp to the touch. Mechanically fine with all 4 Colt clicks, bore has strong rifling with soft frosting throughout. Box with age related distress and peeling, bottom with particularly heavy peeling.
