Early sword related ephemera and books on the use of the sword in military applications. Highlights include a War of 1812 dated book published in Baltimore "CRAIG'S SWORD EXERCISE / DRILL & EVOLUTIONS / FOR THE / CAVALRY," and an 1873 dated "NEW SYSTEM OF SWORD EXERCISES" book. Numerous letters addressed to sword makers, a newspaper advertisement from the Connecticut Courant, circa 1798, advertising swords and mentioning early US Naval actions against privateers and the USS Constitution. A letter from the commander of the 7th US infantry on the frontier asking Nathaniel Aames of Chicopee, Mass to send him engraved officer swords for by name members of his staff dated 1856. Receipt / bill for cleaning of his silver hilt sword to Sir Henry Clinton of Bunker Hill fame dated 1792 from Robert Foster, sword cutler and belt maker to His Majesty. CONDITION: Some show period folds for sorting, most show light toning. 1873 book has some light water staining top right corner of pages.
