Circa 1913 per serial number. Early configuration with round top U notch rear sight, blade front sight, left side of slide with two-line two-block patent and address information with encircled rampant Colt at rear, right side with model designation. "H" stamped vertically at top of firing pin retaining plate channel, "H" and "1" at top of the frame near disconnector hole. Barrel with "5" ahead of lug. Frame has intertwined WGP for Walter Penfield, US property mark on left side of dust cover, right side with serial number. Small parts comprise checkered spurred hammer, slide release with milled relief cut, thin tab safety with milled relief cut, long smooth trigger, checkered magazine release, short 1911 grip safety, and smooth flat mainspring housing with lanyard loop. Truncated diamond walnut grips, two-tone magazine with lanyard loop. PROVENANCE: From the personal and advanced collection of Dr. Jim Watson of Scottsdale, Arizona. CONDITION: Overall very good, retaining the vast majority of the factory blue finish with some superficial handling marks throughout, some silvering. Thinning to sharp edges, particularly towards muzzle consistent with holster wear, and on dust cover, somewhat heavier. Typical silvering to reciprocating areas. Straps very good with some silvering handling marks and thinning, rear strap moreso to the bottom. Mechanically fine, bore with strong rifling and some light pitting towards chamber. A good example.
