Very nice example of an MVSN Model 1937 dagger. The Milizia Volontaria per la Sicurezza Nazionale (MVSN), known in English as the Voluntary Militia for National Security. More famously referred to as the "Blackshirts" for their distinctive black uniforms, they were a paramilitary wing of the Italian National Fascist Party, who used methods of violence and intimidation against dictator Benito Mussolini's opponents. At its peak, the MVSN was a force of 351,000 before being integrated into the Royal Italian Army and disbanded in 1943. Although the MVSN was active from 1923-1943, these daggers are quite rare. The dagger features a bright, unmarked, and nickel-plated blade which leads to an aluminum handle that features a downward curved quillon and an eagle head pommel. The handle features black composition grip inserts with the obverse side featuring a brass Italian fasces emblem. The dagger is complete with its black-painted metal scabbard with brass mounts. Complete with leather hanger and displayed in case with 2 medals, including a Fascist Youth Membership Badge. CONDITION: The blade retains its bright polished sheen. Nice finish to hilt with scattered light blemishes. Composite grips remain intact and firmly secured to the handle. The scabbard retains most of its original black paint and exhibits scattered scratches. Very good.
