German World War II Luftwaffe Hermann Meyer tropical visor cap. Often referred to as an early "2nd model" because of the folded hand applied insignia, this example appears to have been unissued but poorly stored over the years and therefore exhibits heavy soiling on the exterior. Cap is marked "56 1/2", "August Shellenberg, Uniformmutzen Fabrik, Berlin, C2", and "1942". Heavy tan cotton fabric construction with a red cotton inner top, 4 black screened vents, 3 tan metal dish buttons around the center band, and correct black leather patterned chinstrap with black painted steel fittings. Both the eagle and cockade/ wreath are Bevo, have been trimmed and folded, and are correctly hand stitched to the center band. Cap may clean up. CONDITION: Overall excellent. WEZ
