Manufactured circa 1848-1850 by Henry Deringer in Philadelphia. These pistols were so popular, future pistols of small size would be referred to as "Derringers" regardless of manufacturer, and were heavily copied during the period as well. Barrel is semi-octagonal with 7-groove rifling, German silver blade front sight, and notch rear sight mounted on the tang. Deringer trademark is visible on breech bordered by desirable inlaid gold band borders. Back action lock is engraved with nearly full coverage of florals, and is also marked in the same manner as breech. Walnut stock with checkered grip. Silver mounted, with floral engraving on all mounts, pineapple trigger guard finial, machine silver wedge escutcheons, and wedge forearm tip on Schnabel-type forearm. CONDITION: Good, with barrel and lock turned a freckled brown-gray patina. All silver mountings have been polished bright, and sideplate opposite lock is no longer present. Stock has been lightly sanded with small cracks near lock retaining screw and chips near lock. Hammer stops on both half and full cock, but spring appears to be broken. Bore is dark with sharp rifling.
