With a total production run of approximately 3800 units, 1800 of them were centerfire. This is one of the factory centerfire guns. This gun is nickel plated with a case color hammer. It has a silver-plated brass backstrap. One piece ivory grips. It has a single line address on top of the barrel, "-ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-". There is a two line patent dates on the left side of the frame, "-PAT. JULY 25, 1871- / -PAT. JULY 2, 1872-". Caliber designation on the left front trigger bow "38 CAL". Naval battle scene on the cylinder. Matching serial numbers observed on the barrel assembly, frame, trigger guard and the backstrap. Last four digits of the serial number observed on the side of the cylinder. Assembly number 1470 on the back of the loading gate. Post front and V-notch rear sights. CONDITION: This gun retains vast amounts of the original nickel finish. The majority of the finish loss it to the trigger guard and cylinder. Traces of case color in the protected areas. Thie grips have age cracks and are turning to a darker yellow. The bore is dark with well defined lands and grooves.
