Lot consists of 6 items: (A) 1790 letter from William Maclay, Pennsylvania Senator and opponent of John Adams, to Pennsylvania state comptroller John Nicholson regarding a bill to put the house formerly used by the President of Congress in order for the “temporary accommodation of the President of the United States,” noting Hamilton had drawn warrants from the treasury for it, etc. References to Madison, debating memorials on abolition, etc. Maclay actually tried to get the nation’s capital established near his own land holdings on the Susquehanna. CONDITION: Fair. Fully legible and clear, but separation lines on folds, pieces missing from cover sheet edge, not affecting text. (B) 1692 Thomas Lloyd docketed document on land sale by Lawrence Coke. Lloyd was a Quaker and Deputy Governor. Coke’s father had received the land in a grant from Gov. Lovelace in 1671. CONDITION: Fair. Tape reinforced edges. Small paper seal lower right. (C) Clip signature P. Muhlenberg. CONDITION: Good. (D) Nov. 1810 receipt to estate of Thomas Ewing for pew rent, Second Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia, signed by Isaac Snowden. (E) Mount Vernon 1805 ALS by Bushrod Washington regarding apologizing for not notifying someone of a canceled corn purchase. CONDITION: Excellent. (F) 1782 indenture signed by Gen. Philip Schuyler and Rutger Bleeker for land leased to John Seely. CONDITION: Fair. Tape repairs. Legible. Snowden, Schuyler, Lloyd, and Washington all come with JSA LOAs.
