Circa 1850s, massive, Frank Kesmodel, San Francisco made Gold Rush era "toothpick". Measures 18" overall with a 13 - 1/4" blade that is 2" at it's widest point. Left hand side of tapered "toothpick" style blade is maker stamped just forward of the ricasso, "F. KESMODEL / SAN FRANCISCO". German silver crossguard with single piece turned hardwood handle topped with a deeply patinated pewter pommel cap that has a crude star carved in it. Leather scabbard of thin skirting leather is original to the knife and is most likely missing its silver throat, but original tip remains. CONDITION: Very good. Blade has been heavily cleaned and show areas of previous pitting now evenly polished to overall grey.
