Circa 1840s, massive Bowie knife for the American market. Measures 20" overall with a 14" blade and a 1 - 3/4" wide, double edged, unmarked, spear point blade. Cast frame silver handle, with heavily patinated ivory scales held by 10 silver pins. Silver left hand escutcheon has a crude 'W.F.' initials carved into it. Scabbard is original to the knife and has silver throat, trip, and center reinforcing band. One of the largest knives of this form that this cataloger has observed. CONDITION: Very good.
