Probably Edo, given the form. Measures 40" overall, and saya measures approx 29 - 1/4". Saya is decorated with wonderful lacquered pine needles, and further accented by the presence of 4 mon, depicting a three petal floral. Ashi-ai engraved with a floral pattern and gilt infill, tied with a blue hanging cord, with partial brocade around the haki'o. Kiku-gata tsuba, mumei. Fuchi and kabuta game with engraved and gilt infill, en suite with ashi-ai. Black tsuka it, with menuki in the form of varja, with dragons curled around the base of the blade. CONDITION: Very good, with evidence of careful relacquer and repair, but presents extremely well. Sayajiri and semegane possible replacements as they do not match the overall theme.
