Although no factory letter is present, a consignor provided note states this revolver shipped March 5, 1936, to Pocahontas #33 Colliery, West Virginia, and is one of less than 20 known with 1 - 1/2" barrels, the only one of which letters with pearl grips. This example is finished in classic Smith & Wesson blue. Pinned rather than standard forged half moon front sight, as is correct for 1 - 1/2" guns. Grips, as noted, are 2-piece mother of pearl inlaid with S&W medallions. Accompanied by a maroon hinge lid display box, which appears to have been modified from another original box but recovered. Labeled for a 3" nickel gun. CONDITION: Very good. The vast majority of the factory blue is retained with some freckling and moderate wear. Strong case colors visible on the sides of the trigger, the face faded to patina. Grips are near excellent with only a tiny nick at the top of the left panel. Very fine, bright and shiny bore. Fine mechanics. Box is very good as modified and recovered. Labels have some spots of loss. A very nice, extremely rare, and quite possibly uniquely configured Smith & Wesson.
