Lot consists of: (A) Rare M1872 meat can. This unusual model was produced for only 2 years and was replaced in 1874. The meat can wasn’t part of the mess kit as it was made to hold the uncooked meat ration issued to the troops. Constructed of heavy tinned iron with embossed “US” on either side. (B) M1874/1885 cup marked "US" on handle. (C) M1874/1885 mess tin marked "US" on handle. (D) M1874/1885 US Army utensil set with fork, knife, and spoon, housed in leather pouch. (E) M1874 mess utensil set with black lacquer finished handles. With leather pouches. All utensils are full formed. All pieces exhibit scattered blemishes with varying patina. CONDITION: Good.
