Federal regulation enlistedman's kepi of the Custer period. This version is of the earlier style in the pattern that sports a slightly higher crown than the later ones in the production. Front features a die struck brass with lead soldered attachment points, crossed sabers 4th Cavalry insignia to front that has a hinged company letter "B." Bill is tarred leather with oilcloth trim. Lining is correct dark brown, draw string puckered polished cotton. Thin russet leather sweatband is stamped, "HORSTMANN BROS. & CO. / MILITARY FURNISHERS / PHILADELPHIA." CONDITION: Excellent. Retains nice, solid shape, and is unfaded with no moth nips visible. Insignia to front needs replacement leather retaining strips to stay in place.
