September 10-12, 2024 Firearms & Militaria
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/10/2024
The factory research lists the date shipped as September 23, 1882 with a 15" barrel and half magazine. There is no note as to finish or caliber. This trapper was finished in nickel plate and the caliber is .38-40. The Winchester two line barrel address is stamped between the rear barrel band and the ladder rear sight. You cannot read the caliber on brass lifter that still has a few flashes of nickel. This trapper retains the saddle ring and stud, standard carbine walnut stock, and trap door buttplate, which retains the three piece cleaning rod. Dust cover is intact. This gun comes with the BATF paperwork removing it from the NFA list and now is considered a Curio and Relic. CONDITION: The barrel retains the greatest amount of nickel finish with approximately 30%. There are traces of nickel on front sight, butt plate, strong nickel inside the lever, and brass lifter. There is still some strong nickel on the loading gate. The frame retains about 20% nickel, most of which is on top and rear of frame as well as the tang with flashes elsewhere. The balance of metal is a pleasing light chocolate patina. The action works properly. The bore is still sharp and defined with minor abrasions. The stock is solid with scattered abrasions and a hairline at top left side of tang. The forearm has a light crack on left side and a sliver missing on right side from band back to the frame.
