Kawano Sadashige, real name Kawano Jutaro, was one of the foremost disciples of Gassan Sadakatsu, and was a member of the Osaka Rikuygun Zoheisho. He also became a Jumei Tosho of the Arms Administration Headquarters in 1942; see Slough. pgs. 152 and 153. This example is signed tachi mei "Osaka ikugun Zoheisho (star stamp) Minamoto Sadashige Saku" and dated on the ura a lucky day in the 11th month of Showa 19 (November 1944). The star stamp was used to indicate that the maker was Rikugun Jumei Tosho, or an Army approved wordsmith. Numbered "355" on nakagomune. In Type 44 mounts with double latch release, textured wood saya, and single hanger. 68.2cm nagas, with what appears to be a fairly active suguha temper line, with ashi and some gunome bumps visible. CONDITION: Blade is out of polish with a number of micro chips at the ha, and some oxidation to boshi, with extremity of kissaki damaged. Mounts are very good with some expected age wear, with sayaguchi latch not catching. Some other spots of ware.
