70.7cm (approximately 27 - 7/8") of classic shinogi zukuri form. Out of polish which obscured the grain, but temper is a shallow gunome midare. Mumei nakago with kirjiri and one mekugi-ana. Classic Type 98 mounts with a leather cover bound by twine at koiguchi. Kashira has a silver mon depicting a five petal plum blossom, traditionally associated with the Maeda clan. CONDITION: Sword is out of polish with mossing and areas of oxidation throughout. Some indentations and chips to cutting edge. Mounts with rubs and handling marks, some to bare metal; leather covering has some areas of stitching loss and twine is coming undone, with typical crazing and alligatoring common to leather. An interesting sword mounted for the war effort.
