Per the included factory letter, this revolver shipped as a classic .44 caliber with 8" barrel, blue and brass finish, and wood stocks, shipped to Emerson Gaylord, Springfield, Massachusetts, on July 8th 1862, in a shipment of 590; presumably, this was the noted retailer who operated out of Massachusetts. Classic configuration. Barrel assembly is unnumbered, with an "M" inspection above wedge, and the rear of the bolster is shaved, indicating replacement; wedge also a replacement. "S" stamped behind trigger guard, "0" ahead of guard. Matching numbers observed on cylinder axle, frame, and trigger guard; butt appears to match but is very soft. 4 screw frame cut for a stock, with matching cut at heel of butt. CONDITION: Refinished over fine pitting throughout, essentially an even homogeneous mix of dove grey, soft bluing, and chocolate patina. Handling marks and age related marks throughout. Stocks with splice repairs on both sides. Mechanically fine, excepting that there are only 2 hammer clicks, bore with strong rifling and light frosting and oxidation.
